Not a new miracle diet ...

I was out and about in Can Pastilla looking for the Austrian restaurant Vennemann's. And without success. Both addresses, the one in the article and the one in Google Maps, only led to the EROSKI supermarket that dominates this "centre" with its ramshackle, brittle charm. For those who don't know yet: Here is also one of the two German supermarkets. Another, with the illustrious name Mundi Culinario, is located in the Poligono Son Bugadelles. If any of you can confirm that Vennemann's either no longer exists or I was just too stupid to find it, please post it in the comments below!

pretty in pink!

Long story short, on my search for the Austrian treat, I passed a rather pink place. On the way back, I took a closer look and was surprised by the unusual name: "Burger und Waffel Pause".

Barbie meets "Strammer Max

On the board that an employee was carrying out, "Strammer Max", "Gofres", "Crêpes" and "Cocktails" were advertised. Also an unusual mixture. The two tables in front of the restaurant were pink, as were the chairs. I sat down and noticed that there was not only a hamburger ashtray on my table. There was also another huge ashtray. Next to a pink plastic pineapple and a plastic potted flower. It sounds awful now, but in a Barbie-like way it looked quite coherent and somehow nice.

cultural exchange

At the other table was a Spaniard, Juan, who then asked me if this style was typical for German restaurants. And what "Strammer Max" was. After I explained that we don't use much colour in Germany. And that the Strammer Max, which I know and love, is piled high with pumpernickel, Katen ham, fried eggs on both sides, cheese, ketchup, mustard and gherkin slices, he probably thought to himself: "the Germans are crazy ...".

At the "Burger and Waffle Pause", the Stramme Max is actually made with homemade onion bread from rye flour. Sounded tempting, but I was more in the mood for something sweet. So I set about ordering a waffle. This request was countered with the question "which one?" "A little overwhelmed, I asked for the house recommendation: "the waffle on a stick".

was it good?

The cappuccino came quickly and was good, the waffle took a little longer, but was also really freshly made and a gorgeous revelation in red. Somehow I had expected that ... It tasted great. Airy, fluffy, pleasantly sweet, a bit crunchy on the outside, just the way it should be!

Nadescha Leitze, the owner of the "Burger and Waffle Pause", has produced an iconic gem here in a special way that has only been open for a few weeks. In any case, she has probably simply realised herself. And you can feel this dedication! And so it is only logical to also offer her own favourite dishes, even if the combination may not be immediately obvious to the guest.

I will certainly come here again. And for a trip with children, the lovingly decorated interior alone is worth the trip. Cuddly animals, Nutella jars, Minni Mouse. Everything in some way actually fittingly peacefully united. So "burger and waffle break" please stay as pretty in pink as you are and do your thing!

And many thanks to Juan, who - when my battery was empty - sent me his pictures and made them available for this article! Muchas graçias!

Update on Strammer Max from 22.02.2022

I just got an email from Juan. He writes that he went back to the "Burger and Waffle Pause" a short time later because Stramme Max had made him curious.

I won't keep you in suspense for long: Not only did it look great on the board. On top of that, it tasted good! Do his photos also whet your appetite? Thanks again Juan!
