Stay Restaurant Port de Pollensa

from currywurst to boeuf bourguignon

Stay Restaurant is TOP!

The Stay is for me one of the TOP restaurants in Mallorca. Why?

Card Variety

Stay Restaurant in Port de Pollenca has different cards. For different times and budgets. Your afternoon order up and down the snack menu. And when they say "snack", they really mean really good kitchen classics!

There is then the grilled turbot fillet or the entrecote of the Asturian young beef next to the typical squid Andalusian style. Or simply a portion of "Patatas bravas", a Spanish specialty. Quasi small "french fries" - blocks that are approximately the same width and height. But somehow they are far from a cube. Or the "pimientos del padron," these small fried green chilies, one of which is hot every now and then.

In the tapas area, about 5 euros are called here, which then goes on to the curry sausage with an amazing 8.90 € to the already mentioned turbot fillet, for which also reasonable 27.50 € are to be paid. And people, you have to try the curry sausage. Really good! Homemade sauce. Yummy! Sausage good, but could be crispier fried for my taste. And delicious fries to go with it. And all this - "Stay" - typical also really nicely arranged!

Now it becomes official

I like to eat here very much the menu. For 38,- Euro you choose between 3 to 5 starters and 3 main courses. Which is often not easy, because I usually have trouble deciding. And then there is half a liter (!) of wine, water and a dessert. Last time I was here, I ordered a beef "bourguignonne" as the main course and the homemade spaghetti with garlic, fresh artichokes and shrimp as the appetizer. The appetizer was good, but a bit dry and not insanely inspiring. But: rarely seen so well pulsed shrimp!

But now we come to the essentials: The boeuf was wonderful. The meat itself a bit too dry, however, the boss has really delivered a Geschnetzeltes here. Normally, the meat of a Boeuf Bourguignon has more goulash format. And is cooked for a very long time until, ideally, it falls apart in your mouth. A Geschnetzeltes is more difficult and this was not 100% of the consistency, but 150% of the flavor. A wonderfully bound sauce (demi-glace ...!) with an almost infinite range of flavors on the palate. And yet the main ingredients clearly accented:

  • Red wine
  • Onions
  • Bacon
  • Champions
  • Butter

Really a poem! The kitchen had lightly fried the rosemary potatoes. And that was good, because too intense roast flavors could only have lost against the wonderful sauce.

Very nice the shallots, which had previously been marinated in wine. And therefore delivered a refreshing acidity and a slight crunch when bitten into. And the pimientos de Padron, which with their bitter note and the actually fruity aroma form a great creative addition to this classic.

I drank a Verdejo with it, a good local choice with a good acidity and the typical strong mineral taste. For dessert, there was a stracciatella parfait, which flattered wonderfully in the stomach.

The best wife of all - as always - a salad. Interestingly, one of the few dressings that suits her. She usually orders balsamic vinegar and olive oil. And when she makes her own dressing, I get a stomach ache just looking at it, since the main ingredient is lime. But this dressing at Stay pleases both of us, interestingly enough.

Service? Service!

The service at the Stay Restaurant is extremely nice and friendly. I find it downright amazing how the management or presumably the owner has managed to keep such a large restaurant with further over 60 tables at this level of quality. And with the various menus, also allows his kitchen crew to rest and then fire out the creative peaks for evening service. Stay Restaurant is open - if its website is to be believed - 365 days a year. And at least every time I was there, the presumed owner was there, too.

And what is the situation?

The highlight of the Stay Restaurant is its location. You sit on a pier with a wonderful view over the southern part of Puerto Pollenca to the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains at the other end of the bay. It's so nice to just let the sun burn on your fur there even with a glass of wine, and the great thing is, you can do it on a budget. A portion of Patatas Bravas is enough to have a look at the Stay. And normally I always say: Yes, the location is great. And the cuisine isn't that bad. But here the location is great and so is the kitchen!
