Once across the World Heritage Site

Just read in the Mallorca newspaper (source: mallorcazeitung.es, 27.03.22 11:48): The MA-10 on TV. A documentary on ARTE, of course.

Animal visit at the Cap de Formentor car park

For me, the MA-10 is the Mallorca dream road. It leads from Port d'Andratx to Cap de Formentor, i.e. once completely along the UNESCO World Heritage Tramuntana mountains.

One of the most beautiful roads in Europe. I often drove the route from Soller, then it was about 60 kilometres to Pollença. In total, it's about 140 kilometres of road.

Empty in summer?

I took the publication of this documentary as an opportunity to gather a few photos from the summer before last, when we drove the route. Normally, the MA-10, at least the last section from Port de Pollença to Cap de Formentor, is closed in summer and only accessible by public transport. Corona once had an advantage, the island was almost unreal empty ...

Allow plenty of time, the route drags because even experienced drivers cannot drive very fast without endangering themselves and others. But as an enjoyable route it is absolutely first class! Also watch out for the racing bike and motorbike riders, who tend to misjudge the radius of the bends when going downhill.

It meanders and meanders

You have shady stretches of holm oak forest with damp road surfaces, dusty sections that lie in the sun and where the cypress and pine trees provide insufficient shade on the road surface.

It's almost like a little climatic journey you can take on the MA-10. Be careful when the road is wet. Due to the lack of rain here and also the type of road surface, the mountain stretches can quickly turn into quite slippery areas.

Is there anything to eat?

Almost nothing on the road. In Soller, of course, but that's basically still too early. Then there is always a restaurant in between. At the LLuc monastery, you have a choice of three restaurants, although there is nothing sensational among them. Ca'n Gallet has already been recommended to me twice, but I haven't tried it myself. If you know it, please write your opinion in the comments. Or if you have any other tips on where to stop for a bite to eat on the route.

Majorca Dream Road - Cap de Formentor Lighthouse
Lighthouse at Cap de Formentor with - closed - gastronomy

At Cap de Formentor, under the lighthouse, there is a restaurant where you can eat. But when I was there, it was closed. Please also bear in mind that the car park is logically limited in capacity. And the road there is also logically a dead end. So if you can't park, you'll have to go back - whether you want to or not.

When you have driven the Mallorca Dream Road and finally arrived at Cap de Formentor, you must definitely enjoy the landscape from the different perspectives on the terrace. And the sea. It is sensational how light and shadow play with rock and water!

When and where is Mallorca Dream Road?

Arte shows the documentary called "On the road in Mallorca, The MA-10" about this dream road Mallorca on Monday, 28.03.2022, at 16:55. You can also call it now already in the Mediathek, there it is namely available from today until 25.06.2022.

Note from 07.08.: Had to remove the link, because at ARTE the docu still shows up in the search, but then an error message comes sometime ... If you click on Mediathek, search above with the magnifying glass for "Mallorca" ... Hopefully it comes again

Be sure to watch the documentary about the Mallorca Dream Road. It's a completely different Mallorca. And anyone who has driven this Mallorca Dream Road will not forget it in a hurry. I have never experienced such a variety of scenic attractions in such a short distance. As I said, it's a bit like travelling through different climatic zones. Perhaps it can be roughly compared to Portugal's dream road, which runs along the Atlantic coast from Lisbon to Porto.

The first time I drove our MA-10 I just thought, how lucky we are to have such wonderful opportunities so close and easily accessible.
