After more than 4 years of waiting for the building permit, we are finally getting started with elMar - our house by the sea. We are still in the final negotiations with the construction companies. But will start the shell construction at the beginning of the year. And expect a realistic completion in the middle of 2024.
elMar has 4 bedrooms. The master suite faces the front with a breathtaking view of the sea. All bedrooms have an en suite bathroom, of course.
At the front of the house we also have the spacious living area, which wraps around the patio with pool to the kitchen. Not to forget, there is also a garage.
As I said, you can rarely buy a house by the sea. One in Molinar or Portixol almost never. But a new construction in the size and quality there has simply never been. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I always found the small houses very nice, but always too small for a family or simply for a buyer with a certain demand. Fortunately, we were able to buy a second house to go with it at the time.
We then demolished both houses and are now rebuilding them as one house in an "L" shape.
Thus we have created the unique situation that there is always - at least during the day - sun and a view. And as a second essential point, it is no longer simply "only" a townhouse by the sea, but a large townhouse by the sea. Also suitable for families. And also for a life as a resident.
You will love the 150 sqm roof terrace. It allows in a clever way to create different zones and areas where you can either bathe in the blazing sun. Or you can relax and eat in the shade. But maybe you enjoy cooking more? No problem: of course we build a high-end outdoor kitchen.
We prefer an unagitated and unobtrusive luxury. But we like to install things that create quality of life. And a top outdoor kitchen is a feature that no house by the sea should be without. Because you will spend a lot of time there, because that is exactly why you are looking for a house in Portixol.
The whole area has an incomparable variety of restaurants and bars. And for daily needs, there are many supermarkets and also smaller shops in the immediate vicinity.
On the waterfront is also the famous cycle path that connects Porto Pi in the west of Palma with El Arenal. Many skaters, cyclists or even runners are on the road there. You'll always find walkers on the promenade, and it's just half an hour to Palma Cathedral. Fantastic, especially when the sun is setting! And you can sit on the roof terrace of your new house in Portixol and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the hustle and bustle.
Buy a house by the sea in Molinar or Portixol? The opportunity rarely reveals itself. Portixol-Molinar is certainly the most desirable district of Palma de Mallorca. Not far from the airport, just a stone's throw to Palma. The sandy beach with the lively promenade for you right in front of your nose. But your home is an oasis of peace.
The newly built harbor is great designed, just a few steps from your new house in Portixol down the promenade with its great variety of gastronomy and atmosphere. 5 minutes walk further is the bay of Portixol, Palma's probably hippest neighborhood or as it is called in Spain: Barrio.
One could almost think that Molinar is Portixol's little sister. However, at least in the past, Portixol was part of "El Molinar". We have written down a little about the history of Molinar for you.
El Molinar, a charming neighborhood in Palma de Mallorca, enchanted me from the moment I took my first steps on its narrow, cobbled streets. Nowadays it is difficult to define the exact point where Portixol becomes Molinar. Some say before the Rambla. Others see the point just before the newly renovated port of Molinar.
El Molinar owes its name to the numerous windmills that are so typical of Mallorca. Our colleague has written a good article about the history of this fashionable area.
Molinar is perhaps even more uninspired and a bit more "normal" than Portixol. The small street that runs between the houses on the seafront and the sea is quieter than in Portixol with its one-way system. And the parking strip is not there. This means there is less traffic and more peace and quiet than in Portixol. However, the range of restaurants and bars is also somewhat smaller and also somewhat simpler.
All of Palma strolls between Portixol and Molinar at the weekend. The nearest town is Ciudad Jardín. There is a large sandy beach and a large number of restaurants. As a residential area, it is less popular compared to Portixol and Molinar because, on the one hand, the planes are much more audible. On the other hand, the distance to Palma is simply greater.
The seafront promenade invites you to take a pleasant stroll, while the coastal cycle path connects the port of Palma de Mallorca with El Arenal over a distance of 20 kilometres. The entire stretch of coast is frequented by sportsmen and connoisseurs, countless cafés and restaurants invite you to linger, or buy a fishing rod and see what you can catch?
The old town of Palma is a 20-30 minute walk away, past the beautiful cathedral. Just around the corner you will find supermarkets, small grocery shops, a well-known local butcher, bicycle rental, gyms and everything your heart desires. A car is more of a hindrance in Portixol and parking spaces are scarce in summer.
