Also in 2022 we have set out again to check out our 4 favorite Christmas markets on Mallorca for you. With partly surprising results.

Christmas is closely associated with the cold season. And with the warming feeling of a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine in your fist. And although the sun shines most of the time on Mallorca, the cold sets in with nightfall. Then it's Christmas market time in Palma and the surrounding area. And it's a bit reminiscent of typical American Christmas movies.

The fairy lights twinkle and despite the cold, you feel at home amidst the many people, charming craft stalls and the smell of hot chocolate and roasted almonds. What I love the most is the food at the Christmas markets. For me, Christmas has a special flavor, you know what I think of? Of course. Cardamom and cinnamon, ingredients used in the best Christmas desserts and in my favorite magic potion, mulled wine. Here now come my favorite Christmas markets. And what I like best about each of the 4 best Christmas markets in Mallorca:

Puerto Portals

We start with the favorite of the best Christmas markets in Mallorca 2021 and see how he did in 2022 so.

Our reliable classic in the election of the best Christmas market in Mallorca 2022 does valiantly. For the atmosphere there is already the top mark, as every year dozens of authentic wooden huts are built, which fill the main square. It's like going to a small Christmas village.

If you want to try all the delicacies, you will have a hard time, because the variety is fantastic and you will want to stop everywhere. From hot dogs, sushi, oysters to traditional cuisine, everything your culinary heart desires is represented. Not to forget the German waffle bakery from Paguera!

You'll also find plenty of last-minute gifts. A good place to shop in general: jewellery, furs, decorations... an endless number of artisans and brands to discover.

Puerto Portals is home to many families from northern Europe, such as Germany, which is why the Christmas market in Puerto Portals has the characteristic look of markets in Germany. Among the gastronomic offerings, typical dishes of the region such as gingerbread or mulled wine are not to be missed.

Otherwise, it is always worth looking at the website of the port, there is almost every weekend some program. Also for St. Martin's Day there was a great course for the children, from baking cookies to making lanterns. And the parents could chat with each other in a relaxed way.

Unfortunately, the main attraction of the previous year, the ice rink, is missing in 2022. This is completely understandable in terms of climate policy, etc., but it is still missing. And unlike Son Amar, it was a real ice rink.

Therefore, the race is still open, although Puerto Portals is clearly again the favorite in the race for the best Christmas market in Mallorca 2022.

Pueblo Espanol

It is considered the largest Christmas market on Mallorca. It's like being transported back to the Middle Ages, but in the Christmas spirit, because the whole village is decorated for the event. Perhaps a few words about the location: Spain's most famous buildings are reproduced in miniature here in a small area. Worth a visit even without a Christmas market. But a really great and special atmosphere at Christmas.

I was here again in 2022 and must say, it is very Christmassy!

The Christmas market in Pueblo Espanol did not disappoint me, on the contrary! Read here the opinion of the colleague from 2021:

And again it smells of cinnamon buns, which is simply part of every Christmas market. Of course, you will find a great gastronomic offer here. The narrow streets are teeming with picturesque stalls that invite you to eat, shop or just look around. Even the small "Alambra" inside the Pueblo Español is dressed up for the occasion.

At night, the Pueblo Español becomes a spectacle, the light colors the facades of the towers and suddenly, while the music plays, it starts to snow. And the children will be delighted that Santa Claus may appear out of the blue.

My opinion of the Christmas market in the Pueblo Espanol in 2022 is much more euphoric. It is my secret favorite! Respect, what is offered there!

Surrounded by a high wall, this place of about 7000m2 in the middle of Palma was conceived in 1965 as an open-air museum. It was intended to reflect the concept of a typical Spanish village. However, with scaled-down copies of famous Spanish buildings of the last few hundred years. So somehow very strange. But also very beautiful and very special. A really magical place. Like a Disneyland for grown-up architecture fans. And this is exactly where a great Christmas market is set up every year.

This year the spectacle goes from December 3 to 11, December 17 to 18, December 22 to 29 (except December 25) and January 2 to 8. Open from 1 to 11 pm.

People, it's worth it! Admission costs a hefty 10 euros per person. But there is also really what offered. According to the website of the pueblo, children do not cost admission. On site, it said that children up to 4 years would not cost an entrance fee. However, we have also paid for older children nothing. What is really true? Probably depending on the daily form of the ladies at the cash register...

For the rather proud entrance fee, there is a voucher for a mulled wine. Of course, I forgot to pick it up... In total, there are over 80 booths, I started with the Belgian waffles, but was a bit disappointed. I had wanted powdered sugar, the saleswoman then explained to me that the concept was yes caramelized sugar. Which is absolutely true, except that sugar only caramelizes when you leave it in the iron long enough. And not the pre-baked waffle only briefly heats up ... The 5, - Euro for this probably actually good product were unfortunately a case for the trash can.

Apart from that, there was no further disappointment: Culinary is really offered, one stand is dedicated only to truffles. A lot of Mediterranean delicatessen is offered. And it is grilled above all, what the stuff holds. From the original German grill master to the rocking BBQ masters at the wood fire.

And it gets really beautiful when the artificial snow is blown out. Fairytale-like. Then there is a "Papa Noel" (Santa Claus) and a children's carousel for the little ones.

As with any Christmas market here, you need to get there in time so it doesn't get too crowded. But at the same time it is of course much more atmospheric in the dark. So ideal seems to be about an hour before sunset. Parking spaces you get then just, but that may have changed 10 minutes later Our opinion: This Christmas market you should not miss. But make yourself a picture in the video and write us your opinion!

So: the Christmas market in the Pueblo Español is a must for an entertaining afternoon or even an atmospheric evening!

House of Son Amar

Let's first return to Alba's consideration in 2021:

Let the magic begin in the Christmas wonderland at the House of Son Amar.

Without a doubt, a sight to behold. A little Christmas village like something out of a fairy tale.

Stroll through the courtyards of this grand house, drink a mulled wine and simply enjoy the Christmas atmosphere among the stalls of the arts and crafts market.

The little ones can also meet Father Christmas and hand in their letters. And if that wasn't enough, an angel singer will set the mood with the most famous Christmas carols in the heart of the market, while you can enjoy ice skating.

Let's not forget that we are in the house of Son Amar, where the shows are the main attraction and the Christmas show is not to be missed.

The crowning glory of the evening is the fireworks display. Are you ready for the visual spectacle?

2021, Alba

I see it quite clearly differently in 2022, I can't really agree with what my colleague said last year.

Son Amar is a great big event finca, in which something like a Christmas market was tried to integrate. Only everything seems somehow artificial.

And it also no variety of Büdchen with gastronomic or arts and crafts offers. From my point of view, this alone does not create a real Christmas market character. It looks more as if the boss of a large company had rented the Eventfinca. And told his team: "Make a Christmas party for everyone this year in Mallorca and make a little Christmas atmosphere there,

Yes, there is also a Santa Claus for the dear little ones. And maybe also an angel singer? I have seen only one band that played neat rock entertainment music. But had little Christmas flair to offer.

The skating rink is made of plastic, but it's still fun for the kids. Nevertheless, everything somehow does not look ugly. But artificial and narrow.

The fireworks at the end correspond at most to those of a cow village in Germany. Has little to do with professional pyrotechnics, at least in 2022.

Is it still quite nice to sit there? In good company, yes, as always. And the little ones can romp around on the pirate ship playground. That's a plus, even if it has nothing to do with Christmas.

For me, Son Amar is thus at most in the midfield of the Christmas markets 2022 in Mallorca. Especially if you consider that you are from Palma just a quarter of an hour by car on the road. Organized the whole thing is incredibly professional. There is a booking website. There you buy the tickets online. And then is actually on one of the many parking lots also a usher who will assign you a parking space.

From my point of view, the actual attraction there is clearly only the variety show called "Christmas Wonderland", which I found extremely good for 5 euros admission. And I actually find vaudeville totally boring. But there was real action on stage for what felt like half an hour. I'll provide you with a few videos at short notice, there were really impressive acts. For 5, - euros anyway a bargain and for those of you who like Varieté can be exactly the compelling reason to go to Son Amar.

Gastronomically, the Christmas market is also rather a disappointment. Everything seems to come from the same canteen kitchen and you still drive relatively safe with the popcorn called mini chicken wings and the edible fries. So: no reason to run away there. But you will certainly not want to go to the Christmas market Son Amar 2022 in Mallorca because of the food.

As I saw, there are only tickets left for December 18, then Son Amar is done for 2022 anyway. Therefore, hold on if you want to see the Christmas Wonderland and form your own opinion.

Plaza Mayor

4 best Christmas markets on Mallorca

Again, we have Alba's report from 2021:

Every Christmas market is different and the most characteristic feature of the Plaza Mayor Christmas market is its traditional nativity scene.

The whole square turns into a Christmas market full of stalls where you can do your last shopping or get inspired, garlands, Christmas figures, trees, jewellery, candles, handmade toys and many other gifts that you won't find in any shop.

My opinion: Well, let's say it's true that in the Plaza Mayor there are also a lot of cribs or accessories sold.

But maybe as a German you can't sympathize when the "booths" here are basically more containers... So for me personally, this Christmas market is only worth a visit if you're totally desperate for a touch of Christmas and right now and just happen to be there in the corner....
