Athletes, magnates, movie stars or musical idols enjoy the incomparable waters of the Mediterranean in the summer aboard the most modern and luxurious boats that can be found today. Whether Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafa Nadal or the 'Apple Boat', they all regularly dock at the facilities of Club de Mar de Mallorca. A port that is currently undergoing a transformation to become one of the most exclusive ports in the Mediterranean, in line with the great development of Palma's Paseo Marítimo. What's going on at Club de Mar right now is really worth noting.

Around 60 million euros will be invested to make this historically modest but prestigious port a reference in the Mediterranean. This sum almost doubles the investment that the city is pouring into the Paseo. This is the largest private reconstruction of a port facility in Spain. Construction work is progressing inexorably and should be completed by summer 2024.

The 50-year-old buildings were finally demolished to make way for a club with completely redesigned facilities. Until today, Club de Mar has always been in the shadow of Club Náutico de Palma, although it has always hosted luxury yachts of great length. The good image of events such as the Copa del Rey has always worked decisively in favor of Club Náutico de Palma. This is about to change as all the jetties at Club de Mar are being renovated and refurbished. A new quay for large yachts is also being built, which will offer more than 70 berths for boats between 50 and 170 meters in length. In addition, the new port will be able to accommodate up to four yachts between 136 and 170 meters long at the same time, something that has not been possible in the Mediterranean until now.

Modular offices for luxury clients

Luxury is the cult of detail and this, however, until the completion of the project is completely gone for now. The inconvenience caused to the yachts moored at the club under the current circumstances is unavoidable. The removal of the old buildings has necessitated the installation of temporary modular offices. Captains and crew of some of the world's most prestigious yachts are being cared for at a construction site. To this must be added the lack of parking spaces. For this reason, Club de Mar has opened a virtual office so that most of the necessary administrative formalities can be done by telephone or telematically.

Pool lounge with view of Palma

The new project will be characterized above all by its high environmental efficiency and the new layout of the buildings. A central walkway will connect the Paseo Marítimo with the Cruise Station. This walkway will be surrounded by new buildings that will span three floors and will house commercial spaces, cafeterias and restaurants. The third floor of the complex will exclusively serve the members of the Club de Mar-Mallorca and will have a lounge area with a swimming pool with privileged views of the Bay of Palma.

New branding

A change has also been made in the marketing area. Club de Mar Mallorca now has a new image with the motto: "We change not to change". The traditional pennant with the image of a bat and two yellow and red stripes has given way to a new logo, modern and adapted to the times, but which retains the characteristic elements of the club from half a century of its history.

Under concession until 2044

Club de Mar-Mallorca was founded in 1972, three years after it received the public concession for the use of the public port area. On October 19, 2019, this concession was extended for another 25 years - until 2044 - on the condition that the port is completely transformed. As part of this agreement, Club de Mar also committed to pay 250 million euros in fees to the public coffers over the next 25 years.

The work on Club de Mar Mallorca is part of the overall reform process of Palma's Paseo Marítimo and will give a strong impetus to the port-city concept. The socio-economic impact will be significant for the city. Around 500 new direct and indirect jobs will be created, and at the end of the concession period the value of the facilities is expected to be around 170 million euros.

What do you think?

Will the Club de Mar be as spectacular as expected?

I look forward to your opinion!
