Café or restaurant in Palma?

Is Café Poupette more of a restaurant in Palma or a café? In any case, it has a few very special advantages!

Is it a restaurant in Palma? Or a café? Café Poupette is definitely a special gem—so much up front. And for several reasons.

Going out for breakfast!

Imagine you, as a family with children, want to go out for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Like you used to do back when you were a couple. And haven’t done in a long time. Then you pick one of the really great playgrounds in Palma and perhaps decide on the Sa Feixina playground. It’s right in the middle of Palma’s best area, at the “end” of Paseo Mallorca and at the “beginning” of Sa Feixina Park. That’s a small green strip running parallel to the water-filled moat of the former city wall.

And now here comes the best part: right between the road and the playground is the entrance and exit of a large underground car park. With a family-van-friendly entry height of 2 m. In the morning it’s usually pretty empty and you can comfortably get the whole crew to the place of action.

Once you get there, you’ll find various play equipment, for the very little ones as well as the older kids. And in addition—at least at the moment—there’s also a lovely old carousel, which is a big attraction for our kids.
Only a few steps separate the playground from Café Poupette. From the terrace, from most seats you can keep an eye on your kids on the playground. So we sit down, kids more or less in view, and enjoy the friendly service that approaches promptly. By the way, not all the other guests have children. What unites them more is a general tendency toward urban hipsterdom.
The breakfast menu at this restaurant in Palma is great! I love going out for breakfast on Saturdays or Sundays. My standard breakfast consists of a croissant with strawberry jam.

Croissants in Spain

Here in Spain, I fight to keep the croissant from being sliced in half and toasted. Although after a good two years, I’ve almost gotten used to it. Especially since it often unfortunately makes sense to toast the croissant—otherwise at weekends there’s a big risk that the croissant will turn up kind of soggy in a restaurant in Palma.
I also order the strawberry jam separately. Otherwise it can happen that it has already landed on the croissant.

Eggs are part of it

Sometimes I also order scrambled eggs (“Huevos revueltos”). I like them nice and soft, meaning not fully set. And preferably the French way, meaning just barely coagulated with butter. Plus a little ketchup on the side. No bacon, no spring onions, and ideally real eggs, not egg mixture from a Tetrapak.

Banana Clip Group?

So you see, breakfast matters to me. All the more enthusiastic I am about the breakfast menu at Café Poupette. A huge selection from France to England and on to Scandinavia. I stumble across the Banana Clip and learn that it’s a homage to the operators. They’re called Banana Clip Group and also run Rikito and Mr. Xiao in Santa Catalina. A trendy Italian with fresh pasta and a Chinese restaurant in Palma. Plus Café Poupette, which is clearly meant to show French roots. A lovely combination of restaurants in Palma, really—maybe someone simply made their own wishes come true there…
One of the special features at Café Poupette is that morning service is served from 09:30 to 12:00. Lunch and dinner are available from 13:00 to 16:00, and from 19:30 to 0:00 respectively. In addition, there’s a snack service in the early evening and an offer available all day. The menu therefore has a certain complexity and at the same time offers exactly the right level of clarity for its respective time slot.

My Egg Benedict à la Poupette, which I ordered, delights me. Exceptionally tasty, served on these little toasties. I wouldn’t order the bacon with it again; for me personally it wasn’t crisp enough and also fried very unevenly. But I’m particular about that …
The continental breakfast consists of toasted slices of bread, which unfortunately were extremely hard. Fresh, I think it would be a great bread. The croissant was in the good range, a tasty product, probably from frozen. But that’s not at all unusual, it’s really good quality and I prefer it to a weak performance from the bakery around the corner. Alongside that, nicely packaged French sweet-cream butter and the desired strawberry jam. Great! The orange juice seemed a bit thin to me and was surprisingly sweet; the cappuccino was very good.

Conclusion?

All in all, an absolutely well-rounded package with small weaknesses that you can safely overlook, because the sum of its qualities is what makes Café Poupette so attractive.
“Friendly service, great interior design, sitting by the playground, a clever gastronomic concept”
In my opinion, this is exactly the kind of concept that’s been missing as a restaurant in Palma! So, especially for those of you with children of playground age: give it a try—maybe we’ll see each other there!
