Es Trenc, Mallorca’s Caribbean Dream
The unique beauty of this protected ecosystem, home to numerous bird species and fascinating vegetation, shows us the magic of nature. No water sports disturb the pure idyll. With a sun umbrella and a picnic in our bags, we immerse ourselves in unforgettable beach days and let ourselves be enchanted by Mallorca’s captivating Es Trenc.
Es Trenc, the hidden pearl of the Caribbean jewel called Mallorca, lies before us like an enchanting secret. Like a precious painting left untouched by the eyes of the masses, its untamed beauty could not remain concealed forever. Where the turquoise sea merges with golden sand, this paradisiacal beach invites us to wander along the trails of our own thoughts, bathe the soul in the gentle play of the waves, and let the heart come to rest in the warm sand.
In the stillness of the off-season, when the sun lingers shyly behind the clouds, Es Trenc unfolds its true magic. Like a magical place of retreat and inner contemplation, it tempts us to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind and flee into nature’s embrace.
A journey to this wonderful place is a gift to ourselves, an opportunity to recognize the true value of life and to admire the simplicity of nature in all its splendor. A grain of sand may seem insignificant, yet in the endless expanse of this beach we feel the immeasurable beauty that lies hidden in the little things.

A Beach Beyond the Ordinary
The beautiful Es Trenc beach deserves special recognition in the context of its historical significance and its proximity to the settlement of Sant Jordi, which is around 6.5 km away and is part of Ses Salines. The name of this locality points to its close connection to the salt pans, which were once used by the Romans and later by the Phoenicians. At the time, salt was regarded as “white gold” and played an invaluable role in preserving food. Even today, the salt pans are active and surrounded by enchanting pink lagoons, salt mountains, and unique wildlife.
The name “Es Trenc”, which means something like “break”, refers to the moment when the salt pans breached the barrier of dunes. There are various stories about how this happened, but the most plausible one says that in the 18th century a tsunami, triggered by the famous Lisbon earthquake, broke through the dune ridge and connected the wetland to the Mediterranean Sea.
The coastal stretch of Es Trenc and the Salobrar de Campos together form the Es Trenc-Salobrar nature park. In this protected ecosystem live 171 species of birds, including flamingos, ospreys, and marsh harriers. The special vegetation, which has adapted to the salt content of the soil, supports the habitats for these animals and is reinforced by the strips of dunes.
Beach Features
The beautiful Es Trenc beach stretches over a length of 1,900 meters and is 22 meters wide. This means the number of swimmers outside the high season remains pleasant and not overcrowded. The waves are generally moderate, making it a great choice for families with children. All the usual beach services are available, including lifeguards, toilets, and showers. If you like, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, and there is also a selection of bars and beach kiosks to take care of refreshments. Es Trenc is definitely a wonderful place to enjoy relaxed and unforgettable beach days.
Along the entire beach, concrete structures can be seen that were built during the Second World War to serve as bunkers and artillery positions, although they were never used for this purpose.

Activities at Es Trenc Beach
Es Trenc differs from most other beaches on Mallorca in that no water sports activities are offered here. There are no options to water-ski or rent a banana boat. Jet skis or similar water sports equipment are also not available here. Instead, the beach atmosphere focuses on the pure nature experience and the beauty of the surroundings.
Since there are no shade-giving trees, it is advisable to bring your own sun umbrella to protect yourself from the intense sun. Alternatively, fixed umbrellas can be rented on site.
Some sections of the beach are monitored by lifeguards to ensure the safety of bathers. Please note, however, that the number of lifeguards may be limited.
A few years ago, the old beach kiosks at Es Trenc were demolished, but since then new mobile beach bars called “Chiringuitos” have been approved. These new beach bars are located at certain intervals along the beach and offer snacks, drinks, and often public toilets as well. This allows visitors to make their beach day even more enjoyable and refresh themselves in between.

Location
Es Trenc is located in the south of Mallorca, between the villages of Sa Ràpita and Colònia de Sant Jordi. To visit this beautiful beach gem, it takes about 45 minutes by rental car from Palma de Mallorca. Visitors coming from the center of the island or from the west can take the MA-6040 route to Colònia de Sant Jordi. From there, an access road branches off, which eventually leads to the car park behind the wetland of Salobrar de Campos. Please note, however, that parking fees apply. At the beginning of the season, it is advisable to arrive early and plan your visit, as parking options are limited.
Nudists can also swim here, but privacy in summer is limited compared to Ses Covetes, the neighboring beach.
After a day at Es Trenc beach, there are various ways to extend your time. Very nearby and truly recommended, you will find S’Embat Es Trenc, which specializes in grilled dishes and offers appealing décor as well as occasional live music.
