The 4 Best Christmas Markets in Mallorca 2022
What are the best Christmas markets in Mallorca? In 2022, too, we reviewed our findings again for you ….
In 2022, too, we set off again to visit our 4 favourite Christmas markets in Mallorca for you. With some surprising results.
Christmas is closely associated with the cold season. And with the warming feeling of a cup of hot chocolate or mulled wine in your hand. And although the sun shines most of the time in Mallorca, the cold sets in when night falls. Then it’s Christmas market time in Palma and the surrounding area. And it’s a bit reminiscent of typical American Christmas films.
The fairy lights sparkle and, despite the cold, you feel comfortable amid the many people, the charming handicraft stalls and the smell of hot chocolate and roasted almonds. What I love most is the food at the Christmas markets. For me, Christmas has a special taste—do you know what I’m thinking of? Of course! Cardamom and cinnamon, ingredients used in the best Christmas desserts and in my favourite magic potion, mulled wine. Now, here are my favourite Christmas markets. And what I like best about each of the 4 best Christmas markets in Mallorca:
Puerto Portals
Let’s start with the favourite among Mallorca’s best Christmas markets in 2021 and see how it fared in 2022.
Our reliable classic in the vote for the best Christmas market in Mallorca 2022 is holding its own. It gets top marks for atmosphere—every year, dozens of authentic wooden huts are set up to fill the main square. It’s as if you’re stepping into a small Christmas village.
If you want to try all the delicacies, you’ll have a hard time, because the variety is fantastic and you’ll want to stop everywhere. From hot dogs, sushi and oysters to traditional cuisine, everything your culinary heart could desire is represented. Not to mention the German waffle bakery from Paguera!
You’ll also find plenty of last-minute gifts. All in all, it’s a great place to shop: jewellery, furs, decorations… an endless number of artisans and brands to discover.
Many families from Northern Europe, such as Germany, live in Puerto Portals, which is why the Christmas market in Puerto Portals has the characteristic look of markets in Germany. Among the culinary offerings, typical regional treats such as gingerbread or mulled wine are a must.
It’s always worth checking the harbour’s website anyway—there’s some kind of programme almost every weekend. For Saint Martin, too, there was a great course for the children, from baking biscuits to making lanterns. And the parents could have a relaxed chat with each other.
Unfortunately, the main attraction from the previous year is missing in 2022: the ice rink. That’s completely understandable in terms of climate policy and so on, but it’s still missed. And unlike Son Amar, it was a real ice rink.
So the race is still open, even if Puerto Portals is once again clearly the favourite in the running for the best Christmas market in Mallorca 2022.
Pueblo Espanol
It is considered the largest Christmas market in Mallorca. It’s as if you’re transported back to the Middle Ages, but in a Christmas mood, because the entire village is decorated for this event. Perhaps a few words about the location: Spain’s most famous buildings have been recreated here on a small scale. Worth a visit even without the Christmas market. But at Christmas, it has a really wonderful and special atmosphere.
I was here again in 2022 and have to say: it feels very Christmassy!
The Christmas market at Pueblo Espanol did not disappoint me—quite the opposite! Read our colleague’s opinion from 2021 here:
And once again it smells of cinnamon rolls—after all, they’re simply part of every Christmas market. Of course, you’ll find a wide range of food and drink here. In the narrow alleys, it’s teeming with picturesque stalls that invite you to eat, shop or simply browse. Even the little “Alambra” inside the Pueblo Español is dressed up for the occasion.
At night, Pueblo Español becomes a spectacle: the light colours the facades of the towers and suddenly, while the music plays, it begins to snow. And the children will be delighted that Santa Claus might appear out of the blue.

My opinion of the Christmas market at Pueblo Espanol in 2022 is much more euphoric. It’s my secret favourite! Respect for what’s on offer!
This roughly 7000m2 site, surrounded by a high wall in the middle of Palma, was conceived in 1965 as an open-air museum. It was intended to reflect the concept of a typical Spanish village. However, with scale replicas of famous Spanish buildings from the last few hundred years. So, kind of very strange. But also very beautiful and something quite special. A truly magical place. Like a Disneyland for adult architecture fans. And it is precisely here that a fantastic Christmas market is set up every year.
This year, the spectacle runs from 3 to 11 December, 17 to 18 December, 22 to 29 December (except 25 December) and from 2 to 8 January. It is open from 13:00 to 23:00.
Guys, it’s worth it! Admission is a hefty 10 euros per person. But there’s really a lot on offer. According to the Pueblo’s website, children do not pay admission. On site, it said children up to 4 years old would be free. However, we didn’t pay anything for older children either. So what’s really true? Probably depends on the mood of the ladies at the ticket office that day…
For the rather hefty admission price, you get a voucher for a mulled wine. Of course, I forgot to pick it up… All in all, there are over 80 stalls. I started with the Belgian waffles, but was a bit disappointed. I had wanted powdered sugar; the saleswoman then explained to me that the concept is caramelised sugar. Which is absolutely correct—only sugar doesn’t caramelise until you leave it in the iron long enough. And not if you just briefly warm up the pre-baked waffle … Unfortunately, the 5 euros for this product, presumably actually good, ended up being a case for the bin.
Aside from that, there were no further disappointments: culinary-wise, there’s really a lot on offer; one stall is dedicated solely to truffles. Lots of Mediterranean delicacies are available. And above all, there’s grilling to the max. From the quintessentially German grill master right through to the rockin’ BBQ masters over a wood fire.
And it gets really lovely when the artificial snow is blown out. Fairytale-like. Then there’s also a “Papa Noel” (Santa Claus) for the little ones and a children’s carousel.
As with any Christmas market here, you need to go in good time so it doesn’t get too crowded. But at the same time, it’s of course much more atmospheric in the dark. So ideally, about an hour before sunset seems best. You can still just about get parking spaces then, but that may have changed 10 minutes later. Our opinion: You mustn’t miss this Christmas market. But see for yourselves in the video and write to us with your opinion!
So: The Christmas market at Pueblo Español is a must for an entertaining afternoon or even an atmospheric evening!
House of Son Amar
Let’s start again with Alba’s view in 2021:
Let the magic begin in the Christmas wonderland at House of Son Amar.
Without a doubt, a sight to behold. A small Christmas village straight out of a fairytale.
Stroll through the courtyards of this large house, drink a mulled wine and simply enjoy the Christmas atmosphere between the stalls of the handicraft market.
The little ones can also meet Santa Claus and drop off their letters. And as if that weren’t enough, at the heart of the market an angel singer creates the mood with the most famous Christmas songs, while you can have fun ice skating.
Let’s not forget that we are at the House of Son Amar, where the shows are the main attraction and the Christmas show is a must.
The grand finale of the evening is the fireworks display. Are you ready for the visual spectacle?
2021, Alba
I see it quite differently in 2022. I can’t really agree with my colleague’s words from last year.
Son Amar is a great large event finca where something like a Christmas market has been integrated. It just all feels somewhat artificial.
And there isn’t any variety of little stalls with food or handicraft offerings. That alone, in my view, prevents any real Christmas market feel from emerging. It feels more like the boss of a large company has hired the event finca and told his team: “Put on a Christmas party for everyone this year in Mallorca and bring in a bit of Christmas atmosphere.”,
Yes, there is also a Santa Claus for the little ones. And perhaps an angel singer too? I only saw a band that played proper rock-style entertainment music, but didn’t have much of a Christmassy flair to offer.
The ice rink is made of plastic, but the kids still have fun. Still, everything somehow doesn’t look ugly. But artificial and cramped.
The fireworks at the end are on par at best with those of a backwater village in Germany. At least in 2022, it has little to do with professional pyrotechnics.
Is it still quite nice to sit there? In good company, yes—as always. And the little ones can run around on the pirate-ship playground. That’s a plus point, even if, again, it has nothing to do with Christmas.
For me, Son Amar is therefore at best mid-table among the Christmas markets in Mallorca 2022. Especially when you consider that from Palma you’re on the road for a quarter of an hour by car. The whole thing is organised incredibly professionally. There is a booking website. You buy the tickets online. And then there is indeed an attendant in one of the many car parks who will assign you a parking space.
In my view, the real attraction there is clearly only the variety spectacle called “Christmas Wonderland”, which I found extremely good for the 5-euro entry fee. And I actually find variety shows totally boring. But there was real action delivered on stage for what felt like half an hour. I’ll provide you with a few videos shortly—there were really impressive acts. For 5 euros in any case a bargain, and for those of you who like variety, that can be exactly the compelling reason to drive to Son Amar.
From a culinary point of view, the Christmas market is also rather disappointing. It all seems to come from the same industrial kitchen, and you’re still relatively safe going with the mini chicken wings called popcorn and the edible chips. So: no reason to run away. But you certainly won’t want to drive to the Son Amar Christmas market 2022 in Mallorca because of the food.
As far as I have seen, there are only tickets available for 18 December, then Son Amar is done for 2022 anyway. So don’t hang about if you want to see Christmas Wonderland and form your own opinion.
Plaza Mayor

Here too, we have Alba’s report from 2021:
Every Christmas market is different, and the most characteristic feature of the Christmas market on Plaza Mayor is its traditional nativity scene.
The entire square turns into a Christmas market full of stalls where you can do your last bits of shopping or find inspiration—garlands, Christmas figures, trees, jewellery, candles, handmade toys and many other gifts you won’t find in any shop.
My opinion: Let’s put it this way—it’s true that on Plaza Mayor an awful lot of nativity scenes, or rather the accessories for them, are sold.
But perhaps, as a German, you can’t really appreciate it when the “stalls” here are basically more like containers … So for me personally, this Christmas market is only worth a visit if you are utterly desperate for a hint of Christmas—and right now—and just happen to be in the area..
