Mar y Mar Paguera

Enjoying Mediterranean cuisine by the sea with good friends, that was our plan for the first Sunday afternoon in April 2023. The sun was unusually strong for this time of year, the beautiful beach of Paguera full of playing children and slowly roasting adults, according to nationality thereby striving for shades between old pink and dark brown.

The Mar y Mar Paguera has a large terrace in front of the actual building. There is also the entrance, where we were nicely welcomed and brought to our table. Surprisingly, all spoke German. Both the service and the guests. Our table was directly in the front line, from the beach separated us only a small wall with a windbreak on it, so that it was already at this time of year wonderfully warm. 

Food looks great and tastes okay

I had ordered the Tataki from Atun as an appetizer, which cost around 18 euros. The tuna wrapped in sesame seeds was good and met expectations. For the main course, I tried fish and chips. Here, the look of the English classic promised far more than the craftsmanship could deliver. Texture and taste disappointed: The fries were crunchy on the outside. Inside, however, also. Probably too long in the fryer? The same had probably happened to the cod, its white meat was firmer than I would have liked. No disaster, but for about 20, - Euro then just a little too sporty priced. The berry tiramisu tasted good to me. Had it tasted more like fruit and less sweet, it would have been a highlight, so it was just good!

Service would go better

Overall, the service did not keep up well with us or the other guests, longer waiting times had to be accepted on this Sunday. The mostly German guests had varying degrees of understanding for this, but overall sales and well-being fell by the wayside unnecessarily due to the "hangs" in service.

When the kids got wet on the beach, we hung two T-shirts over the balustrade, which you can see well in the one photo. The glass was already dirty and we had no great inhibitions at a "beach bar". The head of the Mar y Mar apparently saw it differently, we were asked relatively rudely to remove the textiles. And one thinks to oneself in silence: It was exactly this kind that made it easy for me to turn my back on Germany ...

My conclusion about Mar y Mar Paguera

Let's summarize: Location top! The children can play on the beach, the view is beautiful. The ambience is pleasant. The service would have to make its high demand on the guests also on itself. And if the cuisine would step it up a notch, it could be really good! So the recommendation remains not to go here for the food. But it is not a warning that you should not eat here. Just be prepared that it might be less good than you would have expected. And just enjoy the view and have a great afternoon in the sun!
