In the magic of autumnal Palma, while locals and visitors are already making plans for the festive Christmas season ahead, preparations for the Christmas lights in the city take center stage. The countdown to the festive season is on and Palma is preparing to light up its Christmas lights on Thursday, November 23 - one day before the famous 'Black Friday'. A magical experience that only adds to the anticipation of the festive season in the city.

Christmas lights with live music

The impressive illumination ceremony promises an unforgettable experience with live music and performances that will transform the streets into a dazzling fairyland. Acrobats and circus performers take center stage to tell the story of how the lights have the ability to transform the city and turn Palma into a glowing place of joy and festive events.

The festivities begin at 5:30pm and the city center of Palma will be buzzing with excitement as families gather to experience the magic of the Christmas lights.

Change of tradition

This year, responsibility for the city's Christmas illuminations lies in the hands of Rafel Brunet, the newly appointed Head of Music and Performing Arts. This task had previously been outsourced and is now being taken back in-house.

Unlike last year, when the lights lit up a week before Black Friday, this year's celebration will take place on November 23. Although there is no information yet about similar light shows in different parts of the city, the anticipation for the festive season is growing and it is assured that the magical atmosphere of Christmas will once again enchant the streets of Palma.

Hotspots

As usual, Palma residents can look forward to a sparkling sea of lights throughout the city center this year, from La Rambla to San Miguel, from Plaza España to Plaza Cort and, of course, the unmissable Borne. As for the pre-Christmas atmosphere, expectations are even exceeded this year as even more streets are filled with festive sparkle.

Christmas markets

The Christmas markets are also back, where small stores will be offering handmade products and individual gifts. As always, we will keep you up to date with all the dates and information and - just like last year - we have summarized the best Christmas markets on the island for you.

We definitely recommend the Christmas market in Puerto Portals and the market in the Pueblo Español. The Christmas market in Puerto Portals starts on December 14 and runs until January 6. Over forty wooden stalls, decorated with fairy lights and Christmas trees, present a varied selection of high-quality products to fill the Christmas season with joy.

On the other hand, the Pueblo Español still offers a truly enchanting Christmas market. This architectural treasure in Palma is home to replicas of Spain's most famous buildings, making its streets and squares a unique backdrop for this special event. The Christmas Market is open this year from December 1st to 17th, daily from 12:00 to 23:00. Admission costs around €10 for adults and €2 for children. Children up to 6 years have free admission. The Pueblo Español is located less than 1 km from the bay of Palma and is easy to reach by car, offers free parking (which is often full when it's Christmas market time) and is well connected to public transport (which is our recommendation).

During these festive months, Palma invites you to let yourself be seduced by the magical atmosphere of the season. Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere that pervades the city and enjoy the unique moments that Palma has to offer during this special time.
